Since we started our first vacation rental in 2016, Our Blue Sky homes have been serviced and cleaned in line with a set of consistent, high standards. Our professional team – Clean freaks is committed to providing clean and safe homes for our guests and owners each and every stay.
Now, on top of our standard cleaning guidelines, we’ve launched an enhanced protocol for vacation rental cleanliness: Blue Sky VR Premium Clean. This new cleaning program meets or exceeds CDC recommendations and guidance from hospitality industry experts. As markets across the U.S. reopen and we start welcoming guests more widely, our goal is to provide even more support and protection to everyone in the Blue Sky VR community.

To promote the health and safety of our communities, we’re taking the following actions as part of our Premium Clean program.
We’re expanding our cleaning measures overall and increasing the time our housekeepers spend caring for each Blue Sky VR home.

Air Purifiers and Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Blue Sky VR has placed Austin & Stadler Form HEPA Air Purifiers in every unit and bedroom for our guests as an additional resource for you to rest easy while staying with us. We also provide a UV Sterilizing Wand.

Do Austin Air Purifiers protect against COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a new strain of virus that as yet, remains untested. However, the HEPA technology used in our filters is clinically proven to remove 95% of all pollutants as small as 0.1 microns. The COVID-19 virus is larger than this, at 0.12 microns in size. So we are confident our air purifiers are effectively removing the vast majority of the virus when it is airborne.
There is also emerging evidence from the UK Health Protection Agency that shows the HEGA carbon cloth, used in our Bedroom Machine, is highly effective at capturing and destroying airborne viruses.
However, it is important to mention, that as well as airborne transmission, the virus can also be spread via surfaces and human contact. Therefore, it is vital that we regularly wash our hands and practice social distancing.
If COVID-19 is your main concern, we would recommend the Austin Air HealthMate or the HealthMate Plus. Both models use HEPA technology and are effective at removing 95% of all airborne viruses, as well as everyday pollutants such as dust, dander and allergens. The HealthMate Plus model is also highly effective at removing chemicals and VOC’s.
For additional protection you may want to consider the Austin Air Bedroom Machine. This also uses HEPA technology but has an extra level of filtration using HEGA carbon cloth that captures and destroys airborne viruses.

Fine dust, pollen, bacteria and unwanted odors can worsen our air quality. Roger Little, with his air quality sensors and auto-mode, continuously measures the quality of the air and adjusts the fan speed to ensure a healthy environment. The visual air quality indicator changes color to show the current air condition in your space. UV Sterilizing Wand for Blue Sky VR Properties

Protecting Our Teams
The health and safety of our teams is of the utmost importance to us. Our cleaning team will be provided with, and expected to wear, personal protective equipment (gloves and face masks) at all times while visiting homes for maintenance, housekeeping, or any other purpose. Also, only one employee will be present in each home at a time. If more than one employee happens to be in a home, they will maintain 6 feet of distance from each other at all times.
If an employee shows signs of illness, or reports coming into contact with someone who is suspected of having COVID-19, they will not be allowed to work.
Maintenance requests from guests during their stay are being evaluated based on the urgency of the need. Non-emergency maintenance items will be addressed after check-out. For anything that requires immediate attention during a stay, guests will be asked to leave the home or remain in a different room from the employee, and the employee will wear a mask, splash goggles, and gloves while in the home.
Sanitizing and Disinfecting
To maximize ventilation and air out the home, our housekeeping staff will open windows while cleaning. In addition all Blue Sky VR homes have been installed with medical grade EPA air purification units for each unit and one for each bedroom. They will then close and lock all windows before leaving the property.
We’re washing and drying all towels and sheets at high temperatures, and employees put on fresh gloves prior to remaking the beds and laying out clean towels.
Once the home is thoroughly cleaned, we treat both hard and soft surfaces throughout the home with a hospital-grade, EPA-approved disinfectant. We have also invested and placed medical grade EPA approved Air purification systems for each unit and bedroom.
While disinfecting, we pay special attention to high-touch surfaces, including: doorknobs (inside and out), lockboxes or electronic lock panels, elevator buttons, stair railings, telephones, light switches, remote controls, arms of chairs, refrigerator door handles, sliding door handles, toilets, faucets and knobs, clothes hangers, touch screens, and play sets/toys, to name just a few. As an added protection we have invested in and will have our cleaning staff do over all counters and high touch area with our UV light wans.
What a BlueSky VR stay has always stood for
The enhanced Blue Sky Premium Clean procedures we’ve adopted build on the level of care that guests have always been able to expect from a BlueSky VR stay.
All Blue Sky VR housekeepers are required to receive both in-person and online training on proper cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning chemicals, so every home is not only clean but safe and ready for guests to enjoy worry-free. After each cleaning service a manger will inspect each property as an added set of eyes to make sure everything on our Blue Sky Premium Clean checklist is done. We continue to use standard cleaning products that are non-toxic and environmentally friendly, in combination with our EPA-approved disinfectant.
Before every guest stay, homes are cleaned and reset for the start of their trip. We use a systematic method to ensure that every part of the home is guest-ready. As part of this process:
- Interior of the home is cleared of any items left behind by previous guests, and all surfaces are wiped clean.
- Hard-surface floors are swept clear of debris and mopped. Carpets and area rugs are thoroughly vacuumed.
- Sheets are freshly laundered and placed on beds.
- Towels are freshly laundered and placed in bathrooms and kitchens.
- All dishes and utensils are cleaned and the dishwasher is left empty.
- Refrigerator, freezer, oven, stovetop, microwave, and coffee maker are cleaned.
- Dining table and chairs are wiped down and all drawers are clean and organized.
- Showers, bathtubs, and toilets are thoroughly cleaned.
- All trash cans are emptied and provided with a fresh liner.
- All counter- high touch areas will be scanned with UV Light wands.
- Patio Deck chair & table - Exterior grounds are cleared, and outdoor chairs and tables are wiped down (Chalet only).
- Hot tub (at Chalet O’Bear) is securely covered, cleaned, and tested before each stay and properly balanced.
When you stay with Blue Sky VR , you can count on more than a clean home. Homes are inspected after each cleaning & before your stay to make sure amenities are present and in working order. We also check that safety equipment (fire extinguisher, smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, and first aid kit) is available for guest protection.
Timeframes: peace of mind for travelers —
To help guests’ peace of mind, Blue Sky will be avoiding back-to-back stays. This will help minimize the likelihood of contamination by allowing enough time for cleaning and disinfection. Based on the recent information available, here are the steps that Blue Sky cleaning team will be following to help minimize the likelihood of infection:
- Once guests have checked out, waiting at least 3 hours before entering the property for cleaning
- Our cleaning service will then enter with the correct PPP equipment & cleaning material to clean & inspect the property.
- All bedding- shower curtains’- dishes utilizes will be cleaned.
- Letting the property remain empty for a total of 8 hours after previous stay checkout, including cleaning above
- Note: while time between stays could help minimize likelihood of contamination, it does not replace enhanced cleaning processes
Finally, guests can simply arrive and relax, since we provide every home with starter amenities like hair and body care products, cleaning supplies, and additional stock of basic household items like paper towels, toilet paper, a new sponge, dishwashing soap, and laundry detergent, in addition we will have our Mindful Waters – natural disinfect cleaning spray bottle in each unit, with individually package wipes for our guest use.
Please note that all of these procedures are guidelines, meaning the minimum that will be done. We are monitoring and implementing additional procedures as required by local jurisdictions, and our baseline guidelines will continue to evolve as we gain additional knowledge and CDC guidance.
